Family Stories and Genealogy

Our ancestors would have gathered around this 1702 hearth in the Pidcock-Simpson-Thompson-Neeley House.

2012 is the 100th Pidcock Reunion. The first was in 1913.

Another generation has grown up and it is time to rethink revising the published family genealogical record. This is a matter for family input and discernment. All ideas are welcome. It seems we have two audiences: 1. Researchers whose needs are met with a genealogical record listing stories and people who have died (or people born prior to 1900). 2. Family, who find a book telling family stories and listing those they love enjoyable. It is also useful for family members to know the names and vital statistics of those born in living memory, in addition to the information listed above. This information is ever changing as life goes on. Today, much genealogical research is done, even in libraries, over the internet accessing genealogical sites and sites archiving historic records. Our historic information is acccessible in the Pidcockfamily database at http://www.RootsWeb.com. This already satisfies audience #1. The genealogical software (Family Tree Maker) we use to print our scroll (see 2003 Reunion) offers the ability to format books and print them to a file for upload to the internet, publishing, electronic, paper or CD distribution. The Family Tree Maker site offers password protection for uploaded files. One family association emails encrypted copies of an updated genealogy book regularly to its members free. This is an easy and inexpensive task. Members can chose to print the book out or store and view it on their computer. Either of these approaches may be a solution for that portion of audience #2 with web access or e-mail. We should also give some thought to how we'd like to format pages for easy replacement to accommodate births, marriages & deaths.

On this site, some family history recounted at Reunions can be found on the Reunion Family Events & Places page.
The Pidcock/Pitcock DNA  Project web site tells a great deal of family history while describing the mysteries it is trying to solve. The family genealogy book, "History of the Pidcock Family and Association", published 1992, gives detailed information about early Pidcocks ($20 at the Reunion or $25 by mail).

The book records the following information: Names of self, spouse, parents, siblings and children. Dates of births, marriages and deaths.
